Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: Brainstorming my Board

Image
[Credit: The Paint Crusader]   With   slightly more detailed plan of action set out in the form of ‘let’s make an Armies on Parade entry’, I now have to actually decide what I should do for the board. My heart is set on it being a Heresy-era display, as we don’t see enough Heresy stuff as is, and it gives me an excuse  opportunity to start collecting a 30K/40K force. As of current, I have a couple of ideas I am considering working on. They are (drumroll please): The Siege of Terra Defence Force Considering this is the climatic finale to the Heresy, it seems fitting to represent it in my board. It would likely be a mix of the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists Legions, as both were present in large numbers during the Siege. Setting it on Terra also offers some good scenery for the board, probably a section of defensive wall garrisoned by the Imperial Fists, with the Blood Angels standing in front of the wall, ready to launch an attack at anyone who comes close. Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: Getting Started

Image
I had a most interesting delivery in the post today: the Warhammer Alliance skills development booklet. It sets out ideas for completing various courses over different time periods. More importantly, it reminded me that Armies on Parade is just over 6 months from now. You know, about when my skill section ends. As of such, a fantastic idea has presented itself: I’m going to enter Armies on Parade 2021 for my DofE. It’s simple, but brilliant. The booklet  [Credit: The Paint Crusader] Having a structured goal like this is going to make things massively easier, and allow me to better demonstrate my skills. The booklet is split into 4 skill levels depending on ability, I’m confident I already have the know how to do levels 1 and 2, and so I’ll focus on level 3, covering the use of a variety of modelling tools and techniques, paint effects, painting faces and freehand, and producing model displays. The suggestion is to focus on an end goal for the level, which in my case is likel...

Weigh In: Sisters of Battle Dogmata

Image
The Sisters get another new model, and this time it’s a chaplain/executioner woman? [Credit: Games Workshop] It might just be the paintjob, but something immediately looks off on this model. Whether it’s down to the seemingly clawed left hand (perhaps she’s a genestealer in disguise?) or the strange looking face, it doesn’t look like one of the best sculpts GW has released for a while. Otherwise, it looks like a fairly typical SoB model, wearing power armour and a long draped robe. She appears to be carrying something akin to a crozius, with an Inquisition-shaped head to clobber people with. The candles on her powerpack are a nice touch too. [Credit: Games Workshop] Mercifully, someone had the presence of mind to include a helmet, a nice touch with any model, but especially welcomed with a strange face sculpt. It’s not anything exciting however, and personally I think it’s a bit plain for a character. There also appears to be an option to swap out the candles for the fleur-de-lis...

Weigh In: Horus Heresy 2.0 Rumours

Image
[Credit: The Paint Crusader] As I'm sure many of you in the loop will know by now, there have been several rumours flying round regarding the release of what's been dubbed 'Heresy 2.0'. In this article I'll take a look at the rumours themselves, my opinion on them, and how they could affect the Heresy. The Rumours There are two main 'sources' for these. The first comes from Anuj Malhotra, a former Forgeworld employee who appears to have worked on the Horus Heresy. When he left, he announced: "I love the passion guys. It has been a difficult year due to Covid and Brexit. Great things are coming, hang in there!" This is a fairly enigmatic message, though we could expect that the 'great things' are probably to do with the Heresy, and so the suggestion from those inside is that a big project is in the works. The second source is from everyone's favourite: an anonymous poster on B&C. They make a list of 7 points, stating that: "1....
