I'm just a simple man trying to make his way in the galaxy on the internet. I blog about Warhammer, covering my hobby progress and discussion about the latest news for 40K and Horus Heresy (because AoS sucks).
[Credit: The Paint Crusader] With slightly more detailed plan of action set out in the form of ‘let’s make an Armies on Parade entry’, I now have to actually decide what I should do for the board. My heart is set on it being a Heresy-era display, as we don’t see enough Heresy stuff as is, and it gives me an excuse opportunity to start collecting a 30K/40K force. As of current, I have a couple of ideas I am considering working on. They are (drumroll please): The Siege of Terra Defence Force Considering this is the climatic finale to the Heresy, it seems fitting to represent it in my board. It would likely be a mix of the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists Legions, as both were present in large numbers during the Siege. Setting it on Terra also offers some good scenery for the board, probably a section of defensive wall garrisoned by the Imperial Fists, with the Blood Angels standing in front of the wall, ready to launch an attack at anyone who comes close. [Credit: The Paint Crusader] As you might be able to tell by the image above, I’ve settled on a Legion for my board. In the end, I went with the Sons of Horus, as I like their sea/slate green colour scheme, and slightly spiky asthetic. I also love the look of both Reavers and Justaerin. Furthermore, I’ve also hit on an idea for a board: a Zone Mortalis. GW makes this fairly easy, as they sell a 2ft x 2ft ZM tile set, which is the recommended size for an Armies on Parade board. Now comes the tricky part, on several levels: choosing my units. I need a force that’s not going to take too long to paint, has a good narative to it, and doesn’t cost too much. The last point is especially important, as I’m going to be dealing with FW. I had an earlier list that included a breacher squad, but the threat of it setting me back £70(!!!) for a 10-man unit has made me reconsider my options. Even a fancy-schmancy Legion Contemptor is £38, and that’s without weapons! Because of this, I’ll be lokk...
The Sisters get another new model, and this time it’s a chaplain/executioner woman? [Credit: Games Workshop] It might just be the paintjob, but something immediately looks off on this model. Whether it’s down to the seemingly clawed left hand (perhaps she’s a genestealer in disguise?) or the strange looking face, it doesn’t look like one of the best sculpts GW has released for a while. Otherwise, it looks like a fairly typical SoB model, wearing power armour and a long draped robe. She appears to be carrying something akin to a crozius, with an Inquisition-shaped head to clobber people with. The candles on her powerpack are a nice touch too. [Credit: Games Workshop] Mercifully, someone had the presence of mind to include a helmet, a nice touch with any model, but especially welcomed with a strange face sculpt. It’s not anything exciting however, and personally I think it’s a bit plain for a character. There also appears to be an option to swap out the candles for the fleur-de-lis...
