I'm just a simple man trying to make his way in the galaxy on the internet. I blog about Warhammer, covering my hobby progress and discussion about the latest news for 40K and Horus Heresy (because AoS sucks).
I had a most interesting delivery in the post today: the Warhammer Alliance skills development booklet. It sets out ideas for completing various courses over different time periods. More importantly, it reminded me that Armies on Parade is just over 6 months from now. You know, about when my skill section ends. As of such, a fantastic idea has presented itself: I’m going to enter Armies on Parade 2021 for my DofE. It’s simple, but brilliant. The booklet [Credit: The Paint Crusader] Having a structured goal like this is going to make things massively easier, and allow me to better demonstrate my skills. The booklet is split into 4 skill levels depending on ability, I’m confident I already have the know how to do levels 1 and 2, and so I’ll focus on level 3, covering the use of a variety of modelling tools and techniques, paint effects, painting faces and freehand, and producing model displays. The suggestion is to focus on an end goal for the level, which in my case is likel...
[Credit: The Paint Crusader] Continuing on from yesterday’s post , I have narrowed my ideas down further. I’m either going to do a Defence of Terra board, or the Sons of Horus after Isstvan. Let’s take a deeper look at both of these ideas: Defence of Terra The final and largest battle of the Heresy takes place on Terra itself, pitting marines from almost every Traitor Legion against the Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, White Scars, Imperial Army and the Talons of the Emperor. A board based on this would focus on the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists, who will be garrisoning a section of The Eternity Wall. The Fists will likely be composed of heavy support squads, with some breachers and maybe some Phalanx Warders. In contrast, the Angels with have a more mobile harassment force, featuring assault marines and members of the Dawnbreaker Cohort. I haven’t decided on what sort of HQ/leader I want them to have. Sons of Horus After the events of Isstvan III and V, the Sons of Horus are now ...
The Sisters get another new model, and this time it’s a chaplain/executioner woman? [Credit: Games Workshop] It might just be the paintjob, but something immediately looks off on this model. Whether it’s down to the seemingly clawed left hand (perhaps she’s a genestealer in disguise?) or the strange looking face, it doesn’t look like one of the best sculpts GW has released for a while. Otherwise, it looks like a fairly typical SoB model, wearing power armour and a long draped robe. She appears to be carrying something akin to a crozius, with an Inquisition-shaped head to clobber people with. The candles on her powerpack are a nice touch too. [Credit: Games Workshop] Mercifully, someone had the presence of mind to include a helmet, a nice touch with any model, but especially welcomed with a strange face sculpt. It’s not anything exciting however, and personally I think it’s a bit plain for a character. There also appears to be an option to swap out the candles for the fleur-de-lis...
