Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

[Credit: The Paint Crusader] Hello all, this is an reupload of something I wrote a while ago that seems to have been lost in the warp! It’s a short one talking about what exactly DofE is and what I’m planning to do. What is The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE)? The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a scheme created by the late Prince Phillip to encourage young people to take up new skills and hobbies. There are three categories to complete: volunteering, physical and skills, and there is also an overnight expedition. You have to do an hour a week of each of the categories, for either three or six months. In my case, this means that I'm going to be completing at least one hour of Warhammer hobby time each week, for the next six months. I've got to log all my progress, and submit it to be assessed at the end of the six months. This is partly why I've created this blog, as a way to help me keep evidence of what I'm doing.  What's the plan? As I mentioned above, I'll be doin...

Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: Lists and Timescales

Image
[Credit: The Paint Crusader] It’s been about 4 weeks since I last posted an update on this, so there’s a few items I need to get through. For starters, I was finally able to go into a Warhammer Store, and was able to speak to the Store Manager, who’s my assessor for this project. We discussed what I wanted to do for my 6 months, and what I wanted the final project to look like. He encouraged me to go away and draw up some plans, as well as a list of everything I’d need to complete the project. I quickly worked out what my plan was going to be, and I ended up with this incredibly detailed and technical drawing: [Credit: The Paint Crusader] Ok, so it’s not the best, but it does set out what I’m planning. It’s set on Molech, the otherwise backwater world that just happens to be the source of the Emperor’s godlike powers, and later Horus’. I’m using a single Realm of Battle tile as a base, as they’re exactly the right size for an Armies on Parade board, along with two Imperial Bastions and...

Weigh In: Maloghurst the Twisted and Imperial Fist Praetors

Image
A bit of a bumper edition today, as I cover the two latest releases for the Heresy; Maloghurst the Twisted and the Imperial Fist Praetors!   Just before we get into the meat of this article though, I'd like to apologise for the complete lack of content recently. Life has been getting in the way of me doing what I wanted to do, but expect a bumper crop of articles in the coming weeks to make up for it! So without further ado, let’s get to it. Firstly, Maloghurst. [Credit: Games Workshop] As someone who is planning to start a Sons of Horus army with Maloghurst as a centrepiece, this model is right up my street! It’s a very good character model, and one that looks very distinct *cough cough Saul Tarvitz*. It conveys the idea of Mal being a cripple well, with him leaning on his Eye of Horus which marks him out as Horus’ personal equerry. It's a good fit for the few images we have of him as well, particularly in his respirator and cabling design. He’s portrayed during the late years...
