Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: The Many Shades of Traitors

[Credit: The Paint Crusader] My paints arrived Tuesday, so I got straight to it painting up some old Tartaros terminators I had from about a year ago. I’d painted them pretty poorly the first time, so they needed some fresh paint anyways. In the end, I did 3 out of a squad of 5 before I felt I had a nice scheme. The other 2 may get painted up just to refine what I’ve currently got. So without further ado, lets take a look at my efforts: Tartaros Test Terminators 1, 2, and 3 [Credit: The Paint Crusader] As you can see, there’s been a fair amount of change in design from Terminator 1 to Terminator 3, based on my personal preference of how I wanted my Sons of Horus to look. I’ve settled on Terminator 3 as my final scheme, but I’ll take a look at all of them in greater detail down below. Overall, he’s too dark for a...

Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: Planning, Planning and more Planning

[Credit: The Paint Crusader]   As you might be able to tell by the image above, I’ve settled on a Legion for my board. In the end, I went with the Sons of Horus, as I like their sea/slate green colour scheme, and slightly spiky asthetic. I also love the look of both Reavers and Justaerin. Furthermore, I’ve also hit on an idea for a board: a Zone Mortalis. GW makes this fairly easy, as they sell a 2ft x 2ft ZM tile set, which is the recommended size for an Armies on Parade board. Now comes the tricky part, on several levels: choosing my units. I need a force that’s not going to take too long to paint, has a good narative to it, and doesn’t cost too much. The last point is especially important, as I’m going to be dealing with FW. I had an earlier list that included a breacher squad, but the threat of it setting me back £70(!!!) for a 10-man unit has made me reconsider my options. Even a fancy-schmancy Legion Contemptor is £38, and that’s without weapons! Because of this, I’ll be lokk...

Duke of Edinburgh Progress Report: Brainstorm 2, Electric Boogaloo

[Credit: The Paint Crusader] Continuing on from yesterday’s post , I have narrowed my ideas down further. I’m either going to do a Defence of Terra board, or the Sons of Horus after Isstvan. Let’s take a deeper look at both of these ideas: Defence of Terra The final and largest battle of the Heresy takes place on Terra itself, pitting marines from almost every Traitor Legion against the Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, White Scars, Imperial Army and the Talons of the Emperor. A board based on this would focus on the Blood Angels and Imperial Fists, who will be garrisoning a section of The Eternity Wall. The Fists will likely be composed of heavy support squads, with some breachers and maybe some Phalanx Warders. In contrast, the Angels with have a more mobile harassment force, featuring assault marines and members of the Dawnbreaker Cohort. I haven’t decided on what sort of HQ/leader I want them to have. Sons of Horus After the events of Isstvan III and V, the Sons of Horus are now ...
